T-Series Announces Multi-Season Drama Series The TATAs

T-Series Films and Almighty Motion Picture have announced a new multi-season drama series titled The TATAs, following their recent collaboration on Made in India: A Titan Story. The project is being planned as a premium event series and is currently in active script development.

The series is adapted from Girish Kuber’s book The Tatas: How a Family Built a Business and a Nation. The book won the Gaja Capital Business Book of the Year award. The adaptation will focus on the Tata family across several generations, covering business decisions, institution-building and the wider social setting in which the group grew.

A wider canvas after Made in India: A Titan Story

Made in India: A Titan Story focused on the creation of Titan as an Indian brand. With The TATAs, the producers are moving to a broader historical subject. The series is expected to cover more than a century of the family’s work and its connection with modern Indian industry, science, hospitality, aviation, technology and philanthropy.

The announcement describes the show as a character-driven drama rather than a project limited to corporate events. Its focus will include the personal convictions of the people involved and the political and social changes taking place around them.

Four eras of the Tata story

The planned series will be structured around four distinct phases in the Tata lineage. The first will look at Jamsetji Tata’s vision for India, including the creation of independent heavy industry through Tata Steel, the opening of the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in 1903, and the ideas that helped lay the foundation for the Indian Institute of Science.

Another phase will follow the difficult execution of Tata Steel at a time when global scepticism toward Indian industrial ambition was high. This part will also cover Tata Hydro-Electric Power and the establishment of the Tata Trusts, which became an important model for structured philanthropy in India.

The chapter on J.R.D. Tata will span more than half a century of leadership. It will include Tata Airlines, which later became Air India, the growth of Tata Motors, then known as TELCO, and the launch of Tata Consultancy Services in 1968.

The final arc will move into the group’s modern phase, including international acquisitions and consumer-facing businesses. The announcement also mentions Titan as one of the examples of how the group entered and reshaped the Indian lifestyle market.

Karan Vyas to adapt the book

Screenwriter Karan Vyas has been attached to adapt Kuber’s book for the screen. Vyas also worked on Made in India: A Titan Story, where the writing had to balance the business history of Titan with emotional and personal elements.

In his statement, Vyas said that his research into the Tata archives made him see the subject as more than corporate history. He described it as a story about people who looked beyond balance sheets to build institutions for the wider public. He also said the collaboration with Almighty Motion Picture would allow the series to handle both personal relationships and a large historical scope.

What the producers said

Bhushan Kumar of T-Series Films said the response to Made in India: A Titan Story encouraged the team to continue with stories rooted in Indian history and legacy. He said the Tata family helped shape “the very idea of modern India” through its values and institutions.

Prabhleen Sandhu, Co-Founder of Almighty Motion Picture, said the company’s aim has been to support authentic Indian stories and the people behind them. She described The TATAs as a story about ideas, values and institutions, not only a family or business empire.

The series does not yet have announced director or cast details. According to the announcement, those attachments are expected to be revealed later this year. For now, the project remains in active script development.
